The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Circulated footage reveal the roof structure being engulfed in flames as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.

Officials have warned that it could take considerable time to identify the victims of the disaster, which killed numerous partygoers and injured another 119.
